This small watercolour painting had been framed using inappropriate and non-archival materials, which had caused buckling and yellowing over time. The quality of the paper and media allowed us to wash the artwork a number of times to reduce staining. To improve the appearance we:

• de-framed the painting and manually removed degraded non-archival adhesives and mount windows

• reduced discolouration through three gentle washes

• removed adhesive residues

• retouched minor losses
