A small cityscape depicted in oil paint by an unknown artist from the 19th century. The painting had a natural varnish layer which had oxidised significantly over time, turning yellow brown and obscuring the details in the image. To restore this painting to the colours intended by the artist, we:

• cleaned dirt and dust

• removed the oxidised aged varnish layer

• applied a new conservation-grade varnish layer to restore colour saturation and protect original paint layer

• cleaned and repainted missing elements of the frame
